Description: This is one of the most popular varieties of what are called ‘Fancy Plecos’. It originates from Rio Xingu near Altamira (Brazil). Because of its max size it’s perfect for small aquariums. They are nocturnal feeders (so feed as late as you can) and are hard to spot during the day when they hide in the rock crevices. This fish thrives in whitewater rapids, and so well-oxygenated and high water flow is required, and the pH should definitely be on the softer (acidic) side. Good water quality, driftwood, and rocky hiding places are musts. It is not purely vegetarian and requires a mix diet. Gold Nuggets are considered peaceful community fish, but like most fancy plecos, they can be territorial and aggressive towards conspecifics & other bottom dwellers. Avoid mixing with other pleco-s unless tank is big enough to establish separate territories (at least 1.5 square foot per pleco, with decorations as dividers).
